Is it more correct to say "I lead a charmed life" or "I live a charmed life?" Google says the latter is more commonly seen on the internet, but the former has more search results from grammar and language sites. I had a similar dilemma when trying to decide between "busting at the seams" and "bursting at the seams." Is this what the prescriptive/proscriptive thing is all about?

What the Internet is telling you is that people use both. Therefore both are correct. :)
Interestingly, I have an instinct about bust/burst (the latter) but not about live/lead, although I think the set phrase uses "lead".
