You've found the right team. I was the driver of the rx7 at the time
of contact.
This was my first competitive race, and my driving was largely based
the school line I was taught in my STI. In this case, a late turn-in
on 11 to line up straight for 12/13. The school-line doesn't always
work in a race, and I can see why you thought I was trying to give you
room. Mostly, I was just trying to hang on and not crap my pants. :)
I spun out after the impact. I managed to get back on track, but was
black flagged for the spin on my next lap. The judges were pretty
cool about it:
Judge: "Do you know why you're here?"
Me: "Because I spun?"
Judge: "So why did you spin?"
Me: "A Miata hit me!"
Judge: "Really?"
Me: "Yeah, they hit my left rear tire, and I spun out."
Judge:
Me: "That's up to you, sir."
Judge: Alright, get out of here.
We were back on track with our next driver a few minutes later. The
damage was pretty light, but was obviously visible to the judge.
Missed the wheel, actually--just a dent behind the tire and a cracked
reflector. It sounds like your car got the worst of it.
Thank you for being so cool about it, tracking me down, and taking the
time to write an apology. My teammates are impressed, and will
happily accept delivery of a case of Bass Ale at Arse Freeze. Please
stick around and have one with us.
Me...I just want a Bob's Bigboy sticker to put on the dent.
Thanks for a great story. :)
