thunderhill turn 3 spin

Our Thunderhill track day with the Golden Gate Lotus Club finished with a bang.

Actually, it was more like a BANG, screeeeeeeeeeeech, rumblejostlebounce, splurp. I tried a "Miata line" on turn 2, hugging the inside so close that the inside wheels were touching the dirt. The line was great...until I neglected to track out at the exit, leaving me unprepared for turn 3. I stayed committed to the turn but ran out of track, clipping the front edge of the berm on 3. This induced a high-speed 360-degree spin which eventually plopped us into the mud off of the left side of the track. This was my highest-speed and scariest spin so far. (I'd rather not say how many others I've done.) I remembered to push the clutch this time, so we didn't stall. A couple minutes of rocking back and forth extricated us from the mud--no tow truck for us! After a visual inspection and an apology to one of the flag workers, we drove the car home dirty, but otherwise unscathed.
